Date Night in Spinningfields

I haven’t lived in Manchester for long, so finding my way around is still a bit tricky. Weekday date nights are a good way to discover new neighbourhoods and areas – which Manchester has plenty to offer. To get to know the new city you live in, you must act like a tourist. So with my boyfriend we decided to hop on the tram and get off in Deansgate and see where we end up. Unplanned, spontaneous discovering.

For a relaxed evening out, I chose to wear my absolute favourite piece from my spring wardrobe, my faux suede culottes. They are unbelievably comfortable and also effortlessly cool. So far Manchester hasn’t shown signs of becoming a exotic summer paradise, which means that spring wardrobe is still appropriate. They are too hot to wear on a sunny day, that’s why they are going to have to stay in the closet for the summer (wishful thinking, eh?). I paired them with a casual shirt, half bun and flowery sunglasses from Lindex and I was good to go.

At the feet of the massive Hilton building, the Deansgate and Castlefield area offers proper Manchester style street views with modern-meets-old and glass-meets-red brick kind of a look. We took a walk a bit further and found ourselves from Spinningfields, a small restaurant, cocktail and shop filled area. Perfect for an evening out. Choosing a restaurant was easy once we saw (and smelled!) the thai street food restaurant Thaikhun.

This was my first time eating thai food – I know, shocking. But the busy atmosphere and the even busier interior decoration just seemed too good to miss. What a lovely place! After waiting for a table in the bar for half an hour we were seated. The menu was filled with interesting thai street food choices and after making up our minds the food arrived to the table faster than I’ve ever experienced. And that’s with the place being completely full as well!

I’m a fan of hot and spicy dishes, so the titles on the menu with tiny chillies next to them always catch my eye. Kao ka prao gai. The spicy chicken mince stir fry with rice and egg may not seem much, but it absolutely delicious! I couldn’t get enough.

I can’t give this place enough high praise (and no, this is not a sponsored post btw). The atmosphere, interior and oh, the FOOD. All top quality. I’d be happy to spend another date night in Thaikhun.
